It always rains on my parade… but we are, once again, respectable.

The stair transformation is complete thanks to @calcoflooring . We now have stairs that look intentional and swish!!!

Is it still raining in in places?
Potentially.

That’s simply part of having half your roof rebuilt while operating like nothing is happening. Mops remain on standby. Reactions are swift. Thankfully not over the tables !!!!

One day we’ll be fully top notch. Seamless. Finished. Dream achieved.

So please — pray for dry days. Not just for the rooftop opening, but so they can tile, screed and do the glamorous malarkey without the bar staff experiencing indoor precipitation.

BUT there are a handful left for lunch.

In, fed, wined, then back home in time for the Masked Singer final, a 1% Club showdown, a kilo bag of Mini Eggs and whatever else tickles your pickle. Romance isn’t dead, it’s just well-planned.

Be quick though — these tables won’t be hanging about.

We’ll dim the lights for atmosphere, set the mood nicely and pretend we can’t see you using the iPhone torch on the menu.

As we stagger, crawl and occasionally hallucinate our way toward the launch of Up2 in March or April
— and let’s be crystal clear, it is NOT going into May.
Say May again and Dave starts throwing marble.

Let’s rewind.

We began this journey by attempting to ram a pizza oven through a wall that was structurally, emotionally and spiritually unprepared.
No drawings.
Pure vibes.
Several grown adults stood around nodding like this was a solid plan.
It was not.
But the oven is in.
The wall has trauma.

Fast forward and yes — the stairs.
We see them.
You see them.
They’ve looked like a crime scene since Christmas.
The carpet? Temporary.
Always temporary.
Anyone who thought otherwise needs a word with themselves.

Signage is imminent.
Aggressive signage.
Eye-watering signage.
The sort of signage that’ll have Denton WhatsApp groups absolutely rattling.
Dave’s buzzing.
He’s been sketching ideas that should legally require planning permission.

Meanwhile Denton’s gone and turned itself into a political playground, and Dave’s not loving the competition.
He’s used to headlines.
He’s used to attention.
He’s already plotting his comeback like a marble-headed Bond villain.

But once that roof slides open — that’s it.
The build ends.
The chaos peaks.
And it’s cocktails flowing, charcuterie boards collapsing under their own ego, pizzas blistered like they’ve been sunburnt in Capri, and sunglasses ruined by grease.

Up2 is loading.
Dave’s reclaiming the spotlight.
Denton, hydrate.
This one’s going to be a lot.

It’s Monday.
Yes, we are open this evening — because rest is a concept Dave has never emotionally connected with.

Mondays at Lorenzo are less ease into the week and more industrial progress montage.
A quick wander upstairs to Up2 to “check on things” turned into the realisation that we’ve apparently been using it as a dumping ground since before Christmas.
Floors are finally getting levelled properly… underneath several layers of “we’ll deal with that later.”

Spoiler: later is now.
We need more skips.
We need something powerful enough to remove pigeon shit.
They’ve fully claimed the place — struttin’ about like it’s their luxury penthouse with skyline views and no council tax.

Now, before anyone panics…
Yes, Up2 is a rooftop terrace.
But this is Denton — we’re not daft.
When the weather’s playing silly beggars, there’s a roof.
And when the sun decides to show off, that roof disappears at the push of a button.
Electronically.
Like magic.
So never — ever — worry about Denton rain ruining the party.

The plan remains: doors open early April.
Let’s all manifest that.
Dave shakes his head.
Aaron looks like he’s five minutes away from punching Dave square in the jaw.
And yet… on we roll.

Downstairs, life continues.
Tables are due in.
Carbonara is flying out — rave reviews, rave plates, rave amounts of cream.
Honestly sick of ordering the stuff. Convinced the chefs are just necking it straight from the carton at this point.

Same story with the Kahlua for the Pissed Pig pizza.
Aaron insisted on a mango sauce to go with it, which means we’ve officially created the ham & pineapple pizza of 2026 — whether the world was ready or not.

Anyway.
That’s enough prattle for a Monday.
We’re open.
Dave’s stressed.
Carbonara’s hot.
Up2 has a roof and a personality.

Last night was staff training, tasting and a little bit of family business.

Dave turned up early — tracksuit zipped, jaw set — ready to introduce the new arrivals to the squad.
What he didn’t account for… was Victoria absolutely stealing the limelight on the dance floor, clutching a gnocchi bowl like it was a Brit Award.

Cue the drama.

Some acted like it was all about them.
A bit… spoilt.

But let’s be clear — not spoilt as in upbringing.
Spoilt as in slow-cooked, rich, indulgent and absolutely not for sharing.

On the table last night:

• Pesto & Italian sausage gnocchi bowl – green, glossy, main-character energy. If you wanna be my lover… you’re gonna have to fight for this.
• Beef ragu gnocchi bowl – deep, comforting, dramatic in all the right ways. Spice up your life.
• Burnt lasagne – dark round the edges, misunderstood by some, iconic to others. People of the world, this is the burnt one.
• Antipasti sharer – designed to unite… but only if everyone behaves. Friendship never ends (unless someone takes the last olive).
• Dave’s dough puffs – the Pesto Bomb – small, explosive, and guaranteed to cause a fallout over the last one. Stop right now, thank you very much.

Victoria danced.
Dave pretended not to notice, quietly backing the bowl-holder’s right to keep it all to themselves.

Because some dishes are built to bring people together…
and some are not created to share.

ROUND ONE. FIGHT.

Welcome to the first instalment of The Lorenzo Pizza Challenge — a noble quest where front-of-house bravely wander into the kitchen and immediately regret their life choices.

First up: Shelley, Leila and Sian.
Armed with girl power, confidence, and absolutely zero paddle experience, they step up to face Alessandro — a man who’s been launching pizzas into ovens since before Dave learnt to frown.

The task?
Load the pizza.
Onto the paddle.
Into the oven.
Simple, right?

Wrong.

Cue flour everywhere, paddles sticking, pizzas attempting a solo career on the floor, and Dave watching on like a disappointed nonna shaking his head in slow motion.

🎶 “If you wanna be my lover…”
…you’re gonna have to stay at the bar, host, and take orders — because on this occasion, the kitchen belongs to the Italians.

Gladiators ready.
Girl power questioned.
Dave unimpressed.

It’s Friday night.
You’re no doubt settling down with Corrie followed by Emmerdale, remote in one hand, brew in the other.
Dave doesn’t do EastEnders. He keeps it northern.

Dave’s watching Corrie and catching up on Traitors, praying Matt doesn’t get the chop.

Meanwhile, we’re getting fresh for the weekend. Again.
They come round quicker than Dave’s mood when the basil’s run out.

We’re all set for another blockbuster party weekend, and possibly the last outing for the current menu before we switch it up. And yes — cocktails are flowing properly again.

Last night Sam nearly lost the will to live halving passion fruits at speed. The moaning was relentless. It almost softened Dave’s stone heart. Almost.

There are a tiny few tables left for Saturday evening… but let’s be honest.

Sunday pizza lunch is the real power move.
Wood-fired pizza, pasta, a relaxed drink or two, and still home in time to bathe the kids and wonder where the weekend went.

If your favourite has disappeared, don’t panic. Every dish was sacrificed with purpose. Nothing has gone without something far better taking its place. The Winter Menu is incoming — built to embrace the cold, reward big appetites and show absolutely no mercy.

Dark. Indulgent. Comforting.
And entirely worth the betrayal.

Faithful or traitor, one thing is certain.

It’s all happening here.

Well… it’s finally our first Tuesday where we’re closed, which means Mat can actually sit down, stop spinning plates, and start thinking about how the hell Up² is going to look. Cue the CGI creations to try and sell the vision to Aaron, who is currently buried downstairs in the Vault fitting yet another kitchen because apparently we don’t like sitting still.

By now you’ll know how we do things – so of course it was never going to be a normal event space. We’re leaning hard into our love of monochrome, alongside Mat’s deep-rooted hatred of anything grey, silver, or diamanté. Slowly but surely, it’s starting to take shape.

Dave is absolutely fuming that he doesn’t feature as much in Up², but he’ll just have to live with it. It’s a party venue with pizza on tap, not really the place for his miserable little face anyway.

We’ll keep you all posted on socials about when the roof finally bursts open and when bookings go live – because right now it’s a classic case of how long is a piece of string… and how many all-nighters have we got left in us.

If you ask Mat, it’ll be ready in time for an egg hunt.
If you ask Aaron, it’s Valentine’s Day.
Mat and Daisy scream bullshit, but one thing’s for sure – it’ll definitely be before May.

Probably.
And before anyone panics – yes, we promise this will be an alternative funky space, available for private hire and also open to the public when it’s not booked out.

That said… if Mat gets his way, it’s basically an over-30s playground. Whether that makes it past Dave and co is highly doubtful. If Mat had full control, we’d be hosting beetle drives and bingo by week two.

So… make of that what you will.

Christmas is gone.
The decorations are nearly packed away.
The deep clean has been… biblical.
Bottoming completed.
(Ooo err. Not literally. Calm down.)

Bleached to perfection and ready for normal service from Wednesday.

Now comes the fun bit…
It’s time to start cooking up a storm and scheming the new winter menu — and we want you lot involved.

I’m already mithering for a burnt lasagne in a dough bowl.
There’s talk of a calzone stuffed with spaghetti bolognese.
And yes… there’s even whispers of a ham & pineapple pizza glow-up — porchetta and dark chocolate.

Before you panic:
It sounds vile.
Dave’s tried it.
Dave wants it on the menu.
So… don’t hold your breath.

The brief is simple:
Hearty winter warmers.
Food that hugs you.
Food joy.
Food that makes January slightly less shite.

Fire your ideas at us and Alessandro, Matty, Dario, Matt and Marco will see what culinary witchcraft they can muster.

It’s January.

Yes, there were a few hiccups along the way — and we apologise sincerely for a handful of missing menu items on January 2nd. We will always stand by our ethos: fresh meat, fresh fish, fresh pasta. Nothing rolls out of a freezer here. If we run out of something, it’s simply because we serve 100% fresh produce.

We know that’s annoying — the hospitality equivalent of the McFlurry machine being down on a summer’s day or discovering there’s no milkshake left. Sadly, some things are out of our control. If suppliers don’t deliver, we don’t substitute with supermarket shortcuts (no matter how much Mat insists on a quick dash to Marks & Spencer and quietly enjoys the perks of his Sparks card… he’s now actively praying for a future carrot famine).

Now… what really boils Dave’s piss.

If you’re leaving a review, please write about your honest experience. If something isn’t right, the best place to sort it is with us, in the restaurant. We’re human. Mistakes happen. As the saying goes: he who has never made a mistake has never made anything.

If the wait was longer than expected — say that. Fair enough. But don’t dress it up with fictional events and dramatic embellishments for effect. Dave does not like a liar.

Anyway — it’s January. The stress fog has lifted. Dry January looms (Dave will survive). And we’re already working on our winter menu: warm, hearty, wood-fired beauties built for colder days.

One final note (and it’s important):
Please don’t ever refer to our pizza as burnt.
It isn’t burnt. It’s wood-fired and charred to perfection. Those black bubbles are intentional — they add flavour. That’s Naples.

If pale, floppy, anaemic pizza is your thing… Findus is always there for you.

Bring on winter

Our first New Year’s Eve is done. Box ticked.
Thank you Denton for absolutely filling us to capacity and (mostly) behaving yourselves within your allocated time slots. We know how tempting it is when you’ve brought your own Prosecco to glue yourselves to a comfy chair for four hours and pretend you can’t read a clock. This is why we always say — book the later tables, you animals.

It’s now 1st January 2026, so Happy New Year from Dave and the team.
He’s not judging anyone today.
That will 100% change when we finally get him up on that roof and he can look down on you all properly.

That officially marks the end of our first Christmas in hospitality. A huge milestone. The staff are relieved. Emotionally, physically and spiritually drained. Box well and truly ticked.

And yes — we are stupid.
Because we’re open from 12 noon on New Year’s Day to cure your hangover.
Pizza has the exact same medicinal properties as a bacon and egg McMuffin.
Dave’s dough puffs are now classed as hash browns. Don’t argue with us, we’re professionals.

And finally…
For everyone asking “is the clock being fixed?”
“what’s happened to the clock?”
and “when’s the clock coming back?”

Let’s just say this — we wouldn’t come this far without going all out on restoring it to its former glory.

What a year it’s been.
From a mad idea to a full-blown Denton landmark — Lorenzo didn’t just open… it arrived.

We’re one month in, it’s New Year’s Eve, and hopes are sky high.

We’ve designed, branded, hired, fired up the oven, argued over fonts, carried marble, laughed through stress, cried behind the scenes and somehow turned Naples, gold marble and local humour into a place you lot now call your own. Every detail’s had heart behind it (and usually Dave’s face, judging).

Christmas nearly finished us off — dry runs, curveballs and BYOB chaos — but it pulled us closer to the community that’s backed us from day one. That means everything.

Now, the elephant in the room.
Yes, a minority weren’t thrilled about no crayons, no chips or black pasta. Fair enough. We never set out to be a wacky warehouse or Maccies. We’re not here to be a carbon copy. This is Denton, it’s on the up, and it deserves something bold. Thank you for having faith in us.

The odd negative review stings, but the overwhelming positivity keeps us grafting to build a bigger, better Denton.

Licence getting sorted.
Rooftop partying coming February to April.
Bear with us — we’re getting there.

According to said comments, Mat and Aaron are now officially the children of Escobar. Not metaphorically. Not “bit dodgy looking”. Actual cartel offspring. Denton’s very own Narcos spin-off.

She keeps them stashed in her pockets like wartime currency. There have been covert exchanges. Yes. Sometimes Dave’s dough puffs are swapped for chewy mints in what could, to the untrained eye, look like an undercover deal. But let’s be clear — this is confectionery-based, morale-boosting behaviour only.

No drugs.
Never have been.
Never will be.

No sherbet fountains.
No nightclub cubicles.
No mirrors at face height.

Our toilets remain black, shiny, and aggressively innocent.

Sunday before Christmas and service is absolutely rocking.
High spirits all round as we roll with our bring-your-own bottle policy thanks to the ongoing licensing hiccups. Yeah, it’s an issue — but this side of Christmas we’re not letting it steal our sparkle. There’s enough to contend with keeping up with tiramisu, Christmas dos, and judging the worst Christmas jumpers we’ve ever seen. The sequins alone could power Denton.

Festive fever has well and truly taken hold and as for us… we look more dishevelled by the hour — but smiling nonetheless.

If we ask any more times “do you have any allergies?” and the reply is “only the wife”, we may not hit the floor laughing — but it’s unlikely to happen again before Christmas.

Sprouts are flying out.
Dave can’t keep up with his mince pie puffs.
Coke sales are through the roof.
And it turns out you lot get even more pissed on your own wine — and honestly… we’re here for it (temporarily).

Well… it was one hell of a Tuesday in Denton.
You absolutely poured in for lunch and, on the very same day, the builders officially started clattering about on the roof.

So yes — all we want for Christmas is Up2 🎄
And it’s finally happening.

We should at least have the structure in place soon, then Mat will spend weeks working out how to deck it out, while Aaron continues his long-term mission of changing toilet seats and adding “just one more bit” until roughly 2027.

All jokes aside, we’re hoping to throw those doors open around February. It will be pizza and cocktails on the roof and healthy scoops of tiramisu. And those pizzas are to die for!!!!

“Too cold for a rooftop,” we hear you cry?
Absolutely not.
This beauty has a fully retractable roof and full heating, so it’s a party whatever the weather. Granted, you’ll have to pop outside for a vape — we can’t have clouds of blue lemonade ruining the gentleman’s-club aroma.

Up2 the rooftop terrace we promised, and Up2 the rooftop terrace we start to deliver.
Early start this morning getting the structure up on the roof and it’s already feeling very real.

By February you’ll be able to look out over the Morrisons dome and right across to the Pennines.
And before anyone asks — yes, it’s fully covered with a retractable roof. No sun required. You can sit up there in the pissing rain, wrapped in the same cosy feeling as being under your quilt at home while the rain batters the windows… except this time you’ve got a pizza in one hand and a cocktail in the other.

This is Denton.
And Denton is going places.

At this rate, nobody will be talking about Altrincham.

After a shaky start it’s proper nice to see the amazing reviews starting to flow in — suddenly there are no tears on my pillow, no cries of “why did we open a restaurant in December,” just big smiles, full bellies and Dave giving us his best smug face from every corner of the gaff.

So now it’s time to start planning for the weekend, and our Sunday Surf & Turf Special has had its cook-off. She’s a beauty. Built for those Sunday diners who, quite frankly, love a bit of steak and a bit of fish. Well… lobster, prawns and fillet anyway. The seafood here at Lorenzo is the real deal — no Kerry Katona prawn rings here, babes.

We’ve also had a little limoncello tasting with the staff so you can now finish your meal with what I can only describe as fairy liquid, but according to bar manager Sam it’s actually the good stuff and one of the few made with real lemons.
And as you can see, Sian — who likes a shant — is living the lemon dream, absolutely knocking it back like she’s on the Amalfi Coast in Denton.

The outside signage is coming together nicely and should be in place next week… providing we find screws big enough to keep the whole circus attached to the building.

It also seems you lot drink wine by the bottle, and only the good stuff, so copious amounts have hit the shelves and the storage ready for a wild weekend ahead.

It’s Tuesday. It’s rank outside again, and tonight we’re praying for an evening blissfully free of technical gremlins.

When you pour your heart and soul into something for months on end and a WiFi wobble makes you look like a complete tit, it’s enough to send you right over the edge. Whoever decided pen and paper had run its course needs a very stern word. When orders don’t hit the kitchen it turns into a full-blown shitstorm, and when the system quietly hoards all that information to itself, even bigger issues arise.

Anyway — deep breath. We’re choosing to believe it’s all now sorted and that tonight I’ll go home refreshed, happy, and without the urge to batter myself around the head with a Christmas tree!!!

The tinsel lining? Weekend evenings are pretty much booked solid this side of Christmas, so if you fancy a jaunt to Lorenzo, now’s your chance. And if you haven’t christened what you’re having for tea yet, then shimmy on down.

Well… that’s the first weekend done. Arrrrrgghhh.
Hard doesn’t even touch it. Even the porcelain Daves were pulling faces of pure nervous energy.

We didn’t advertise a candlelit supper—far too Hyacinth Bucket for us—but that’s exactly what we got on Sunday evening when the restaurant plunged into darkness mid-service. One swift SOS to lifesaver Andy the electrician and we were back up and running, candles promptly boxed back up where they belong.

Yes, it was a rollercoaster.
Yes, we felt sick.
Yes, we staggered through the best we could.

And honestly, we cannot thank you enough for bearing with us and sharing our scared-shitless fever. The patience, the kindness and the glowing reviews about the food and service meant more than you’ll ever know.

Denton, we’ve got your back—and it feels very much like you’ve got ours too. Every day is a learning curve. Who knew you loved sprouts, steak and lamb shanks quite so much? We’re sorry to those we ran out on, but we genuinely couldn’t have imagined the demand of our very first weekend.

It’s Monday. We’re back in for service this evening. Fridges are full again. And to the few who suggested we should’ve just popped to Morrisons—nah. We’re not breaking our high-quality, locally sourced ethos four days into service.

Week two… let’s hope and pray luck stays on our side and we get a smooth (but still busy) run.

Our first Friday night… and by god did it feel festive.
Denton, you turned on the glam – mirror balls spinning, sequins flashing, and a real buzz under the sky of Lorenzo.

✨ We’re so happy we could melt. ✨

Starting a new business with a team of 25 and watching us become one massive group of mates has been something special. No more minding our P’s and Q’s – they know what they’re doing, and the feedback about our young team has been genuinely mind-blowing. Attentive, warm, and doing their absolute best to give you the full Lorenzo experience.

As for the food… I feel sorry for the sheep.
The lamb cutlets continue to be the dish everyone desires. That seafood pasta looks like it’s been collected straight from St Ives beach.
The wizard and I might not agree on everything though – because one man’s goulash is another man’s broth, and that dish definitely divides opinion… which we kind of love.

Saturday, you are a big one. And when we say busy, we mean rammed to capacity, with just a few lunch spots left.

Christmas has officially landed on our illuminated corner of Denton. @vault2_barandbistro downstairs was absolutely rocking and we can’t thank you enough for coming straight back and rebooking.

Here we go with night two after an easy-peasy lunchtime… and honestly, who would venture out in this biblical rain? Well, some of you brave souls did — so thank you, ladies and gents, for splashing your way to us.

It’s a busy weekend ahead, which means tonight is our chance to get everything in order and make sure those lamb cutlets are fully stocked. (We’re not risking riots.)

And a tiny request from Housekeeping HQ: wipe ya feet when you come through the doors — I’m sick to death of hoovering up pine needles — and if you could close those swish glass doors behind you, Marco might even treat you to a little dance.
Dave’s fuming, obviously. Green-eyed. As you can see above, he’s been practising his salt-scattering routine… shame none of it actually landed on the plate.

It’s still absolute carnage in here: necking back Starbucks like holy water, Henry the Hoover on his 47th lap of the restaurant, and who knows… a Christmas tree might get lobbed up in the next ten minutes if we lose the plot again.
